new bass £500-£600

Im looking to uprgade my bass.
i generally play rock/alt/heavy rock and i normally play with a pick
im looking for about the 500-600 pound mark and was considering the sterling ray 34, ibanez sr700, fender p or j bass.

plz help

I play in similiar kind of range of genres and I would say go for either the 'Ray or the Jazz Bass. Seems to be the 'indusrty standards' now. Try both and see which gets the sound you are looking for.

Also, what rig are you playing through?

I would look at Spectors aswell possibly.

my rig is really ****** at the moment i use some crap ibanez amp n a cheap multi efx pedal. im gona upgrade my whole rig but im starting with de bass

IMO, you would be better off spending the money on a decent amp setup before going for a different bass. You might find that the bass you have now sounds great through a better amp

I play SR (500) and not only are they GREAT bang-for-buck, but they're also awesome in every other way. If you can get one with the bartolinis go with them - they're soooo transparent.

The Sterlings are also great basses although I've only played in music shops.

Really though, it depends on what you want, and how long you're going to keep it.

If you want a beautiful piece of wood and a clear clear sound, go with the SR - but the resale price will be shot if you're going to re-upgrade next year.

If you want the MM sound, the Sterlings are great basses for any level of player, decent resale price if you're going to upgrade.

If you want a Fender sound (either), then £600 isn't going to go massively far, but you'll be able to resell for practically the same price if you decide to change your mind.

what sort of tone those the ibanez have. i played one ages ago but cant rember bout the tone but it played like a dream
