New bass day - Fender MIA Precision

So I already have a white MIM Precision. And I only play in the house, so it's probably as much bass as I'll ever need. Therefore I didn't need a new one.

Then I see that Guitar Center are knocking out brand new MIA Precisions for just over $900. So I email Zzounds to see if they will price match. And they do. $926 delivered to the house.

So guess what arrived yesterday ? :)

Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but it looks great. No finishing problems, etc.

And seeing as I got such a good deal, even my wife thought I did pretty well. Now I just need to stay away from any other tempting offers for a while !

Oh, and of course, I'll be replacing the tortoise pickguard with a plain black one. That will probably improve the tonez too. ;)

NICE!

Your bass is exactly like the first bass I ever bought in 1998. Mine was an MIM and cost me something $375 new. I have since bought and sold many boutiques, customs, 5/6 strings etc. only to come full circle - Just picked up a mint/used MIA black maple P that is just so solid. I have played dozens of American, Mexican, Indonesian P basses recently and within seconds of playing this one - It was sold to me :)

I have a black pick guard on the way... IMO - yours will always look best with the TORT! I gotta say, fender is putting out some pretty nice basses these days.

Congrats and Enjoy the new bass!

Anyone know the story on the 62' custom shop pickup that comes stock in the American standard?

I think it sounds pretty good - but it's a bit flubby down low when you dig in. I was thinking about mabye trying a few different pickups just for kicks. Thoughts anyone?
I just ordered the Aguliar set for mine. There is just something I am not liking about the stock pickup.

yeah strange... Ive been doing some reading and decided i might try a bill lawrence p set. I also have a Duncan SBP-2 hot worth giving a go. they came stock in the ESP vintage 4 I had for a while and sounded really good.

Black pickguard installed. I like it much better than the white.

By the way, I was in L&M today (canada's guitar center) and they are selling Fender elite 5er's for $2700 CAD+tax. Boy thats a lot of bread for an assembly line Fender bass! Admittedly, it felt pretty darn nice... the neck was quite similar to my nordy actually but still so expensive. These standards are a bargain at under $1000 USD. I was looking at Japan P's in the $750 range until I stumbled upon my USA standard - glad I did!
