Hi kids. On Friday of this last week I picked up a "new" (to me) bass, so I figured that'd be as good a reason as any to come in and intro myself and say hi. I've reviewed the rules and FAQ and stuff.
First, though, the deal! Found on local (Gainesville, FL) Craigslist.
$100 even. A couple small dings on the front (edge) and headstock, one very noticeable chip down to the wood on the back. Here's the chip (lower left edge):

Man, that kid had the action so high you could fly planes under the cables. The strap pins were loose too. I had to go pick up my son from the bus stop after picking the bass up, so I had to make a decision in about 5 or ten minutes, but I decided to go for it.
Got her home and screwed the bridge way down, in the process fixing the intonation on the low E, tightened one strap peg in, shimmed a twig in the strap pin hole for the other and tightened her down, and we're good to go.
For a Benjie even, I can't complain.
Biggest surprises: body is really small. I expected it to be big, like an Explorer. Plus, neck heavy like the worst of the SG guitars. No big whup to me, but still a surprise. According to the serial number and neck plate, this is an '06 from the Saein Korea plant. The new ones are made in China of alder and apparently are sold for less than the old MIK (mahogany?) ones sold for. (If anyone has some good info on the difference between the MIK and the new MIC, lemme know.)
At any rate, that's my most recent deal. I think I done pretty good. Here's my other basses, fwiw, all inexpensive cheapies, but I've got most of the bases (pardon the pun) covered:
As far as amps go, nothing fancy or expensive there either. I have a '60's Sunn 200S head that I use for both bass and guitar (oh yeah, I'm a guitardist too), and a Crate BX200 head as well. I have an old SVT 8x10 fridge cab, and a little DIY 2x10 (made from a Peavey silverstrip PA cab with 2 Carvin bass speakers put in). Last, I have an old Woodson 250 head and matching 1x15 cab. I mix and match stuff as gig requirements, laziness, and impedance allow.
I'm in a few rock bands that do original material of various genres. I'm the lead singer/guitarist in one, and in the other two I've gone back and forth between guitar and bass as needed, and do backing vocals in those. And I play in church too.
But enough about me.
I'll try to play nice.
