Very Cool- Congrats! Surprised you bought a 4 stringer, but what an iconic model!
I had a very modded '68 for a few years in the early 2000s.
It was light like yours, but I think half the weight was in the humongous neck. It had quite a lot of carving done to the body,
front and rear, to give it a svelte feel. Previous owner took the slab to the lab.
Great sounding bass, I think it had a Schecter pickup. I considered modding it like Chris Squire's, but ended up selling instead.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm surprised I bought a 4 string bass as well, but it really called to me, and I have enjoyed playing it this past week. There are many songs that I feel still need a 5 string bass to do them justice, but enough songs that can be played with a 4 string that make it worth having a bass like this one.

Like you say, the neck on these is fairly fat. But I've slowed down in my old age so it doesn't bother me much and it's not uncomfortable. I might have found it so in my youth, but not now. Yes, it is iconic. The only mod I've done so far is to remove that extra strap button that a previous owner added, and I've put it in a Road Runner modern case for transport - I want to keep the original case in the best condition as I can so I won't use it. But other than that, no other mods I think.

And yes, it sounds wonderful.
