I have a Modulus Flea J5, and it was born to slap (carbon fiber neck). However, my Geddi Jazz four string is the real slap daddy. I hope my jazz mentor/teacher, who happens an awesome slapper, doesn't see this. Uh, um SLAPPING IS MERELY A TOOL IN A LARGE BAG OF TRICKS!!! Jazz bass, Jazz bass.
P-Bass sounds great for slapping if you're good at it...I've seen/heard many funk bassists slapping the hell out of a P.
You don't need to buy a whole new bass just to slap. Just re-string with steel roundwounds - medium-light, or even light gauge, and dial in your tone at the amp.
On the other hand, you could buy a Jazz or Stingray, but if your technique isn't on point, it won't sound any better.
