New bass or new a guitar (or should I add to my rack)

I've been saving my money for a while now. I have about $600 saved up and I'm trying to decide if I should get a nicer bass, a guitar (I prefer writing music and riffs on guitar, and right now all I have is an acoustic), or should I expand my rack. My current rig is....

Ibanez GSR200
(Love the neck, has good sound for a $200 bass)
Dean MetalMan ML (Mistake, case cost $130, neck isn't that good, heavey, but looks cool, lol)

GK Neo 412
GK 2001RBP
Carvin CDM1500 (These last 2 are in a 3U Gator Case)

What I'm considering:
Ibanez SR600 (Black)
or
Getting a 6 space case and add a power conditioner leaving a space blank to help cool the power and pre amp, and maybe a rackmount wireless.
or
Invalid Link Removed
(With a 15 watt Peavy Vypyr)

An advice?

Well, it depends really. I have been in similar situations as you, and you have to think about what gear you have and what you are after. You are on a bass forum, so ultimately people will choose bass, and if you were on a guitar forum more people would choose guitar. I'm not saying that people won't play guitar on a bass forum or vice-versa, but that just seems to be the trend.

If you are a serious bass player and your current bass isn't doing it for you, I would upgrade and get the bass. If you like playing bass but have been playing more guitar I would go with the guitar.

Any way you can trade your current bass in and get a bit of money toward the guitar or bass, or are you planning on keeping your current bass?

Expanding the rack in the way you mention won't really do much for you in terms of options, or even in any usable way, from what i can tell. Some people will tell you about how great a power conditioner is for your amp... the reality is its just an overpriced, glorifed power strip. Now if you have 3 different rack effects in addition to your pre/power setup i could see it being a very handy thing to have, but as it is it's not going to improve your tone or really even offer any protection beyond what a $6 GE power strip would. And unless your current setup is getting hotter than you think it should, again, having space to cool the rig wont' make any appreciable difference, at least not in any kind of "fun" way.

Personally i'd ask myself what was more important... having another bass, or in this case a "better" bass, or having a guitar. If the guitar is going to allow you to express yourself in ways that a 2nd bass wouldn't, maybe that'd be your best bet. Or, if you'd like to focus on becoming a gigging bassist or something like that, perhaps upgrading to something nicer is the smartest move. Just ask yourself what you're most lacking right now... if you feel restricted by your current bass and its capabilities, or if you'd rather the ability to express your creativity on a different instrument (in such a way that your acoustic doesn't allow). The answers will obviously depend entirely on you... so good luck!
