New Bass Player, Old Guitar Player

Hello everyone,

After thirty years of playing guitar, everything from classical to jazz to metal, I have decided to become a bass player!

Just purchased a slightly used but very nice Ibanez BTB300 4 string.

I just wanted to say hi to everyone, and ask one question:

What's the best self-learning experience for picking up techniques unique to bass, like slapping? I'm looking for an instructor in my area as well, but I'd like a head start with a good internet or dvd course.

Any suggestions?

Hey man I'll tell you what. I started playing abss about a year ago. I learned all my stuff by experimenting by myself. A teacher would help but really I would just experiment. BTW when you slap hit your thumb on the last fret of that string to get a good tone.
