New Bassist

Just spending time with the instrument working out the relationships of each note. Start with a root note and play each interval. I.e. Root and half step, root whole step etc. It will make transcribing bass lines by ear a lot easier and also playing bass lines that you hear in your head. Listen to as many music genres as possible and hear what the bass is doing. Don't forget to have fun. Learning an instrument is fun. Some things may be challenging, but stick at it. If I'm struggling with a music passage I move on and come back to it the next day. I usually nail it the next time I try it.
