New Bassist

I have just recently decided to pick up the bass. I have always loved music and played drums over the years, but have always enjoyed hearing that bass amp putting out beside me. So thanks to a good friend of mine allowing me to purchase one of his, this is what I've got to start with. A US G&L L2000. So far I'm really getting into this bass and I love it. Here are a few pics. I hope to get a lot of good advice from all of you here and am sure I will.

Nice Bass, and thats pretty cool that you were/are a drummer.. I have the same situation, I have been a drummer all my life and just in the last 3 Yrs. have been playing bass and now Im so heavy into it, I cant put it down and it all started out as a joke from a friend of mine. I borrowed his bass and off I went, now I have my own basses and amps.. good luck with it, Im sure you will do well, I find it very easy to play bass along with, accent, or oppose the drummer while playing because I am one.. so it really works out..

So far I've been the same way. I can't stand putting the thing down, and when I do it usually ends up getting picked back up within 5 minutes. My 3 year old digs music as much as I do and I love it! I bought him a guitar for his 2nd birthday and i've taught him 3 chords on it, that kid really amazes me sometimes. Here's a pic of him with his first guitar.

Very nice first bass. It should serve you well for many years.
Since you are are also a drummer and have the timing/stability thing going, you should take to bass with no problem.
Congrats and welcome to the Deep End...

I find it pretty incredible that timing issues are solved, I find it so easy to play along with a drummer or oppose him and play some off beat stuff and I find it all very simple and easy to do because I have played the drums almost all my life, It really did come very easy to me anyway, the timing that is..

Welcome to the dark side. If I can offer one piece of advice... practice makes better.

You have a killer bass, don't spend your time GASsing for better gear, spend your time practicing. I saw a quote here on TB a while back that really stuck with me. It said something to the effect of "less eBay, more Mel Bay." Get to know your instrument. Ins, outs, ups, downs, backwards, forwards...

Having been a drummer, being part of the rhythm section should feel like second nature. Learn the bass and play your heart out.

Good luck. =)
