Double Bass New bow help

Hi people

I'm looking at upgrading my bow from a basic student bow to something a bit better. I'm looking at this Alfred Knoll german pattern bow and was wondering if people had any info, knowledge on the history, location, ect. of the bow maker or bow.

Any info would be great as i know very little about DB's and bows having only come to the DB side of things in the last year.

How much are you willing to spend on a bow? Because for the under $1200 price range, I am a believer that the Metropolitan blows all other German bows (except for a couple singular exceptions) out of the water.

I'm looking between £500-£600 which I guess is about $800-$900? I'm not sure of the current exchange rate. What sort of figure are we talking about as a starting price?

I have a French Albert Knoll of very similar appearance and it's a very nice bow for the reasonable amount I paid for it. Try to get it on trial so you can give it a try in real world conditions before you fully commit to buying it.

The Knoll's are a family of bow makers that have a shop in Germany. I believe it is the son of founder (Hartmut) who controls the firm today. I had a Hartmut Knoll bow at one time and really liked it. My only regret was selling it! The bow was really good value for the money. Check out their website for a bit more on the firm's history etc. I would arrange to try for a period of time before making the purchase.
