New cab recommendations needed...

Howdy folks, I'd like to pick up new cabs sometime soon and I don't know where to start my search. I'm going from an Ashdown MAG 300 head to a Peavey VB-2, so I now have the ability go go down to 2 ohms and I'm really ready to explore some different options with speaker cabs.

Where to start? I play mostly 60's and 70's rock, so I'd like to keep those old-school tones in mind. Budget is ~$800ish for cab(s).

Thanks for the suggestions so far, folks!

I haven't checked out the Peavey stuff, nobody locally carries it.

I was thinking about Avatar, but for some reason was thinking it might not work so good for what I do. Maybe I'm way off?

I'm not familiar with Bergantino at all. Sure is pricey! I'd love to check it out, but again... nothing local.

"Two" 4 ohm Avatar 2-12" cabs with the horns rolled way down would sound old school to me. Two cabs would set you back $718.00 plus shipping.
I'm guessing that by old school you mean 15's? I'm playing pretty much the same type of music your talking about and I went to 12's, (a Eden 212XLT cab.) IMHO the 12's give me better, fuller bottom with a faster transient response over 15's. Using 12's you get near the lows of a 15 and near the transient speed of 10's. Best of both worlds!

My thoughts exactly.
