NEW! Epiphone Classic-IV PRO Thunderbirds!!

So far I've only found one chrome/nickel cover for Tbird pickups, the one you can get on eBay. We discussed that topic in a german forum and someone ordered them to find out that those have the same dimensions as the pickups itself. So you have to CAREFULLY cut down the black plastic. The electronics are glued in.

It's possible, but a little work has to be done.

Now when you say cut down do you mean take all the plastic off or cut and slip the corver over the plastic ?

3/16 isn't horrible at the 12th fret, but you shouldn't have to max out the screws on the bridge to get that. How is the neck bow? Too much bow and the action may be be a little high.

I have the action of my Classic at low 3/32" and high 2/32". I can't get any lower with the bridge, but could possibly get a little closer if I took the very little bit of relief out, but the first fret could possibly buzz then.

BTW - I may have my SGD pickups with chrome covers in a few weeks. Neck will be ND3 and the bridge SW4. Will record some clips and post the stock clips as well to compare.

Also I don't understand how you would get 6/32" stock. As I understand it all are QCed in the US. Mine came with a card with the measurements of the high and low and I only adjusted the truss rod for a little relief and lowered the action maybe 1/32" on each side.

Mine is a factory second. I think it is the blemish on the side of the fingerboard right at the fret, a slight indent.

KJpollo I have the alpine white bass - and hand on heart I can tell you that those pickups alone we worth every penny and more! Love this bass - yes it neck dives, but who cares?!

When mine arrived it was not set up very well. Aside from the string height being a little too high for me (personal preference, I admit) the intonation was way off. Sweetwater made good on it all, however.

Can you post some info from your card? Who inspected it and what does it say the heights were? As I understand it, the specs must be exact and there is no range.

Ah I re-read what you wrote and you said "personal preference". Yeah same here. What did you get your action down to?

I did not measure it when it came back, but it plays incredibly well. It's a remarkable bass for the price, even when the case is factored in.

I should measure it and note it on the card so I can set it exactly at this same point she adjustments be needed.

I don't know what the measurements on the card are in though and they may be from the fingerboard not the fret if it was milimeters. ::shrug::

The ferrules were indeed an issue. They were removed and re-glued and the neck relief was tweaked.

Can anyone confirm that the jack is a stereo jack? It has 3 terminals. The third isn't in use though.

Hi all,
My T Bird arrived nicely set up from Guitar Guitar, absolutely no issues with it at all.
It has a single jack input and is a very, very sweet instrument.
I have played Fender Jazz basses for over 35 years and this is now my number one Bass.
The band I am in called 'Still Whisky' ( shameless plug) has changed its sound due to guitarist changes. I was up against 2 Gibson Les Pauls and the Fender needed to go through FX to cut it. This Bass cuts right through them, the Gibson Humbuckers really do make the difference to this Bass.
Attached photo shows me using it around 10 days ago. I am sitting as I broke my collarbone 30 hours before the gig! LOL!

Sooo I've been listening to some thunderbird classic IV youtube clips and was quite impressed*! Plus I always loved the look of those birds*! The only problem is that I was more heading towards getting a 5er as my next bass...

Has there been any rumors about a classic V coming out*? Any chances of that happening in the next year*?

If not, I may go in the direction of a pro-V, how does its sound compare to the classic*? I'm looking for a bass with strong natural mids, by which I mean that I have to avoid «*scooped*» sounds or I'll just get drowned under my guitarist (and I just like that tone too). I heard soundclips of classic thunderbirds and pro-V that had that quality, but I'm afraid that was coming from the amps and not from the bass.

I own a Gibson Thunderbird, also an Epi Pro IV. Both sound great, but in different ways. The Gibson humbuckers sound great, deep & powerful, with plenty of definition. The Epi has less without boost, but sounds good in its own right. With the Epi if you roll off the bass & treble to the detent (non-boosted) you won't experience that scooped tone, it's very flat, tone-wise. I wouldn't expect Gibson/Epi to introduce a Classic V, but then who knows? Anyway, the pro's are a great value and can more than hold their own in the mix...and they are available in a 5.
