New Fender American Precision Deluxe???

Hi guys,
i want to buy a new bass, and i want a very good bass :bassist:
Right now, i have a G&L L2000 (with k mode) and a MIM P Deluxe "passified" with 500k pots and DiMarzio PJ kit (great pickups).
I love this basses.

I'm really interested by the new line of Fender US Deluxe, and would like to know if there are users of the new P Deluxe.
Does it worth it?
I tested one in NY 2 months ago and liked it, but I really don't like older models and search something different.

Thanks ;)

I had one - great bass. Part of me wishes I hadn't sold it. No serious weaknesses. I had to shim the neck to get real low action but I expect that with a production bass. Lots of usable tones, mine was reasonable weight (8.7 lbs), great build quality. The usual caveats apply with Fender but the one I had was as good as most boutiques.

No others opinions? please... :crying:

I really love my Precision Deluxe Special MIM passified with DiMarzio PJ but search another bass more "active" sounding.
The PJ configuration is my favourite, explains why i want a New Deluxe US P but i like the Stingray 2 band too (only 2EQ, i had a 3EQ and didn't like it at all, erk...).

I've got to choose between the new P Deluxe US, a Stingray 2EQ (hard to find used, not interested by the Classics) or Sterling Ray34 CA (don't really know much about this bass, seems to be good)

Hey Nightvision,

Here's what my experience has been... It involves a bit of a story, though. It all started with buying my first Fender, a Tony Franklin Fretless. After playing a relatively cheap Ibanez P/J for years and years, I finally felt the urge to get a quality bass, specifically a fretless to expand my tonal possibilities. I came across the TF Fretless used for a great price and fell in love with it instantly. It's been my go-to bass for the past year or two. Since then, I have felt really inspired to pick up a fretted Fender, and for the past year or so, I've been running around the city playing Fenders like nothing else. I finally narrowed down my decision to the new American Deluxe Precision and the fretted version of my fretless. I ended up choosing the TF Fretted over the Deluxe Precision and shared some of my reasons why in another thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/tony-franklin-fretted-american-deluxe-p-633917/index2.html

To make a long story short: The American Deluxe Precision is a fantastic instrument. The only thing to keep in mind is that you will likely need to shield it, and in some cases you will need to ground it properly (in my case, the pickup poles weren't grounded and made terrible popping sounds, but other people have recorded different types of grounding issues and I have experienced some of these first-hand by playing other Deluxe Precisions in stores).

I'm in the process of souping up my old Ibanez with Nordstrand pickups and a 3 band Nordstrand preamp (with a tone control, like the deluxe). If that doesn't work out, then I'll just suck it up, save some money and go custom. Like you, I'm looking for a good active bass, too. I'm just picky and really want it to be a 24 fret P/J :)

I have a 2010 sunburst P Deluxe and it is my pride and joy, it is beautifully built and finished, plays superbly and sounds great with a lot of tone variation from the P/J pick-ups and active/passive set up .
Its my ultimate bass :D

I love the 2011 Precision Deluxe. I've owned the maple and now have a rosewood which I prefer. The maple had a ground problem which was fixed with shielding paint, but my rosewood is dead quiet. Both have great low action, surprized to hear about shimming the neck on this one as my action is low with straight neck and no problems. I love the pickups and prefer the N3 bridge over the prior humbucker. I love playing this bass passive very much as it sounds so good without the electronics, but when the band volume starts going up I flick the switch and this baby is right there with sweet, thick pbass tone through the new active electronics. Best I've ever played from Fender. I love the craftsmanship and would buy another in a heartbeat (I guess I already did). The maple is brighter, but both have great pbass tone and you can't go wrong with this one. The rosewood I bought new (I had the alder body on both and feel it gives authentic vintage tone) and if you shop around or buy used you should get a great deal. MF runs that 15 off a lot and so does GC, but other dealers have good deals too. I got mine at Leitz Music in Panama City, Fl. They were super about everything and I think they have another there. Good luck, I like your choice! Mine is 3TSB, RW btw.
