New Fender Deluxe 5 String Jazz...I WANT!!!

I find it interesting that Fender went with a 12" radius. I wonder if it will make it feel more like an Ibanez SR neck!! Would be different having a bass that is all fender but plays like an Ibanez :)

Get one while you can since they are discontinued. The neck does not feel like an Ibanez Soundgear.

Ahhh yes. And I missed that he wanted a 4-string. Sorry 'bout that. Yes, the Suhrs are good. Or maybe check the Sire Marcus Miller basses. But still: a Jazz doesn't feel like a Soundgear, and it never will. Unless you put a SDGR neck on it.

I got one a month or so ago and it has blown me away in terms of feel and playability. I think I'm gonna replace the electronics and properly shield the bass soon though. I really dig the 17mm spacing but finding replacement pickups is not an easy task..

I used to have an older one ('98) and I can recommend replacing the preamp by an Aguilar OBP-1 or something similar. I've installed Nordstrand NJ5's in mine which sound very good, you can also check out Aguilar pickups :)

Yea I wanna say after 2002 they switched to two different sized pu's and 17mm spacing at the bridge. There is debate/confusion about this though. Mine is a 2015 and has 17mm

I'm really hating the contour heel on this new Deluxe line Fender is putting out. I've played them, and they really just don't do much as far as access goes (but I have long fingers and am used to the workaround, maybe). That said, the surf pearl with a white pearl pickguard would be incredible... maybe toss a parchment pickguard on the sunburst one... and the active/passive switch is fantastic, too. Hmmmmm... 850 bucks though.

Also, props to them for making a 5 string version of their high mass bridges. I like those a lot.

Cool, love the look of this one. Interesting this is a different bridge than the one I have (2015 serial #) Wonder what else is different?

Also the $850 vs $600 on mine new..

@mattyiop The older ones didn't have active/passive switching, and had standard Fender style bridges, and I imagine these are different pickups, but I could be wrong. The countoured heel is different, as well as there being two battery boxes instead of the one. Lastly, tortoise vs black pickguards, it looks like. The old ones are on clearance and are disappearing, from what it looks like on the usual sites and eBay.

Also, there's an $1,100 model with the typical natural ash and binding/blocks neck, but it's up to you if that kind of price hike is worth the features: Invalid Link Removed

Interesting w/ the "upgrades" - both the pickups seem to be fender noiseless (the newer ones being N3's) active passive is a nice new feature, not sure on the benefit of 18v. Man I'm pumped I got mine for $599! Think it is a killer bass for that price. I have a sadowsky pre that I'm gonna drop in soon and looking for pickup options, but there doesn't seem to be that many. Do you know if the new models are 17mm spacing at the bridge?

I imagine they might be 17mm, but you'll have to bug Fender about that until someone gets one and runs a check for us.

Active 18V is useful because it gives a little more headroom to the preamp, and gives it more kick. Or, you could just modify it and have it be the usual 9V (nothing wrong with that) with a backup battery in the second slot. Or hide stuff in the second battery box like nuclear launch codes or something. It's got a purpose but it's also just nice to have down the road if you're not sold on 18V of power for your preamp.
