New Gibson SG Standard question

Hello everyone, new to the forum and just got my second bass yesterday a Gibson SG standard and I’m in love. Upon bringing it home from the post office I opened the box and it looks fantastic I go and noodle on it a little bit and noticed I’m getting a almost clanging/rattling sound coming out of the neck pick up when it’s horizontal in a playing position but if it’s just laying on it’s back in the case and I pluck some strings the sound isn’t there. I tried tightening the screws on the pickup but didn’t want to crank them down too hard but the sound is still there. Is this common? What’s the best fix? Loving it other than that sound

Welcome to the forum!

Unscrew the neck pickup and put some foam under it, the screw it back in. That should solve the rattling issue.

I used 4 small square stick-on rubber feet (effects pedal style) one on each corner of the pickup underside, aligned with the existing foam pieces - no more rattle.

I tried doing this but now I have a higher pitch rattle coming from my bridge or bridge pickup what could be causing that ?

1. Make sure there's no play in the saddles adjustment screws - it's easy for them to slip forward especially when changing strings. Last move when setting intonation should be a tightening, not loosening of the adjustment screw.
2. Loosen strings and make sure they aren't twisted
3. Ball end silk wraps should not be so longs as to come in contact with saddles
4. Some people will tell you to replace the 3-point bridge - total nonsense IMO.
As for the pick-up I'd remove it and see if you can't locate the rattle.
