New guy / Bass as a second instrument..

Hey everyone! Obviouslt new here to these boards. Starting Bass soon as a second instrument. Serious drummer for 40 years and always intended to learn bass guitar.
Now seems the time. I'm goin for it! I have a lot of questions on what to look for in a BEGINNER bass (TIGHT BUDGET)..short scale vs long scale, neck profiles bla bla blah..

Thinking I may have come to the right place. Go easy on me.. I'm learning all this like some of it is Greek to me.

I have no idea which will fit you best, but, take heart, go to your local music store and try out the short scale.
I chose a P 24 fret bass. Works for me.

I paid $350 +/- for my first Yamaha bass. IMO $350 gets you out of the suspect stuff and into something you cab use for years to come. A 15 watt amp is fine for home, you will need 150 plus when you start gigging out.

Great use of your time!

I always advise my "crossover" friends (guitarists/drummers etc) to get a Jazz bass as you will get the most familiar range of sounds. It is a comfortable instrument to play.

Unfortunately right now, trying out a bunch of basses may be more difficult (or dangerous) due to virus depending on your community so what would usually be the process of getting a good local deal, should be avoided.

That in mind, I would find one here in the classifieds - we usually take care of our own and will be quite honest about the condition of the instrument. In my 15+ yrs, I've yet to buy, sell or trade one that was lemony or different from described.

I've tried a bunch of the Squire Jazz basses and in my experience they are very good value and sounding instruments that will serve you well.
