New Lakland Ownership

This change has been so organic I don't know that there is another example to compare it to in the industry. The guys taking over have been there from the beginning and are just as invested in the concept of Lakland as Dan was. It's not like Fender came in and bought them or something.

I'm sure that they'll be some changes coming down the line that will help Lakland financially but I get the feeling that these decisions will be made with the brand in mind. I'm sure that the current lines will stay the way that they are now but I wouldn't be surprised to see a line just below the Skyline line that would allow more players to experience a Lakland. I have a Skyline 55-01 and I love it, but there are a lot of players out there that simply cannot afford a Skyline and they've been relegated to picking through a bunch of garbage looking for a gem.

We'll see what's coming because business as usual concerning offerings, was just not working from a business standpoint. I'm sure that it will be good news when it hits as long as the other options remain intact.

+1 After speaking to them at Summer NAMM, I have to say that I am thrilled that Bo and John have taken over. If you take it as a given that Dan would no longer be at the helm, IMHO, the Pirruccello are a best case scenario from any angle.

Obviously, the proof is in the pudding, but I totally expect Lakland to continue to deliver the goods. I am hoping to delve into this story a bit deeper in a future issue... :cool:

That would be a story of interest to a lot of folks I'm sure. For my part, I hope to own my first Lakland by year's end ... and just hope it's true that they're as good as ever.

In a word YES!

new models are coming out....Indo basses are consistently lighter than the previous Korean basses, JP has his ear to the ground on customer service etc....

In actuality, I think the company is getting better which is something I never thought could happen....

Yes Dan was extremely passionate about Lakland and loved the company, but I can say with fact and first hand experience that the Pirruccello brothers are just as serious and passionate about every thing involving Lakland basses and the brand. I have been around Bo and John on more occasions than I can count and they are the best for Lakland to stay relevant in this struggling business. I feel that if any one else had taken over ownership of the brand it then would cease to represent what Lakland has become so well known for the world over. I have expressed to Dan Lakin that he couldn't have gotten two better people than Bo and John to take over a top notch brand and take it to higher levels.


And for the record for those who may not know, John Pirruccello and Dan are childhood friends. And John is one of the reasons Lakland bass guitars are what they are and why the brand is what it is(a very respected brand). John knows exactly what it takes to keep Lakland relevant and respected.

your first paragraph is truer than you know! I can tell you that there were a few "big names" interested in buying the models but not the brand...the basses would ALL have been made on an assembly line and chunked out along other models from the same brand....Dan might have made more cash in such a transaction but it might have destroyed the brand and the GREAT customer service that came along with that...dan would NOT let that happen.

As for your second paragraph.....time will tell....
