New Les Claypool Album!

The cd was in the mailbox today when i got home from work today:D I'm listening to it right now, only on track 3 so far. I think he just mentioned Sarah Palin:eyebrow: Anyway so far so good I guess. I need more time to absorb the cd.

You need to listen to "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that some of these songs are for a video game soundtrack and some others are for a movie soundtrack so it's not like he's just singing/playing about whatever he wants. Some of the tracks are a bit repetitive and some riffs sound like they were right off of purple onion imo. Still pretty cool but not anything to write home about.

Just got it today and I'm on track 5 right now.
It's ok so far. I do like that he's using the whamola! :hyper:

But I have to say that Primus is his best work. Especially on Sailing the Seas of Cheese. I was introduced to Primus on that album and it's my fav. so far.

I like the Brown Album too but it was a little too different than the others I've heard. Love Fisricuffs!

Not a fan of this new one. Les is one of my very faves and i keep buying everything he puts out but, to be honest, his "true" solo stuff just kind of bores me - especially the new one.

Love what he's done with Primus, LCFFB, C2B3, etc., but the new one, "Of Whales and Woe" and "Purple Onion" (with a couple of exceptions) are just collecting dust.

i haven't heard the knew one but i agree with planet boulder, most of his solo work is rather blah, phantom patriot was not to long ago that's pretty boring. he needs to stop using his envelope filter so much.

but Primus is my favorite band ever and sausage was bad action as well.

The new album is especially goofy, even for him. I'm not sure how legitimate the claims of it being written for soundtracks are, but it would explain a lot. The songs just seem to have a "childish" quality to them, and not in the elastic sense that all Les stuff does. That may sound harsher than I intend, but it's just not a great album IMO.

There's some neat stuff on there, I understand people not liking it, I hated it at first.

When I saw him play the songs live, it all came together for me and I've been listening to it almost exclusively since. The percussive style requires some digesting before it starts to click.. the way Les' playing and the drums feed off each other gets addictive.

Latest album is pretty terrible. Latest tour is f*cking awesome. Caught him in Boston last week with a surprise guest appearance by Morphine. I think Les is at the top of his game right NOW. I would imagine some would disagree with that.

This is why it is so good. He is really "out there" on this. Primus is gold, Les is not going to just keep doing the the same style over & over. If people really hate this that much there must be something good about it. I remember the same reaction to Zappa & Beefheart music.

Obviously not a lot of Avant / experimental Rock fans here. If you like the Residents you might like this. It's his most experimental bass work he has ever done. It works for me.

Yeah & everyone wanted Bowie to do Ziggy Stardust forever.

got it the day it came out. cage plays on What Would Sir George Martin Do, and is one heck of a slide whistle player :smug:

les' current work and his previous works are almost two different phases of his career. If he makes more albums like this, it will start to click for more people and you guys won't hate it as much. it's just different is all, and I support different stuff, especially from my idol les claypool.

i think the new one is terrible. i am a big fan of most of the stuff he's done in the past, but this is crap. it definitely sounds like soundtrack stuff to me. and for two different soundtracks? a movie and a video game? that sounds like he's just putting out a bunch of leftovers that wouldn't make a real album.
