Double Bass New Love for SWR's Aural Enhance

OK -- I admit it -- I'm a hifi junkie.

I love things to sound full range & clean...with lots of headroom.

So, over the past few months I've been experimenting with running things on my SWR rig flat...and even cutting some highs as well. And, as suggested by several TB'ers and SWR users, I've left the Aural Enhancer off.

In general, this is a great place to start and for most rooms, a good formula.

However, over the past few weekends I've played several receptions in these giant, opulant ballrooms and lobbies with marble, glass, and cathedral-size ceilings.

It literally sounded like I had rubber bands for strings...there was no attack...just decaaaaay......................................

Finally, during the last gig, I reached back and randomly opened up the A.E knob about 25-30%. Whoa! All kinds of clarity & goodness came back in to focus from the rig. Naturally, I then had to cut some Lows to balance the "modern scoop" sound.

What was left was a very workable and much more inspiring tone to get through the crazy acoustics at the gig.

Any other SWR (or Eden, etc.) users find this to be the case in certain rooms & situations?

The "Aural Enhancer" is a nice feature on the SWR amps. I use it all the time. I call it the "room tuner." I don't know how it works exactly, but it does.
I also use the "bass intensifier" control.
Essentially it's a parametric EQ to boost super low end without your having speakers barking at you.
I've heard a lot of people complain about the "mid scoop" of the SWR amps. Honestly, I just don't think most people know how to utilize the controls.

The Eden 'Enhance' feature I believe is similar. With that turned to around 10:00 it seems to help the tone. I seem to remember using that knob on my SWR, although the AI Clarus just gets run mostly flat and sounds better to me than the other amps I've owned.
