New M83 single

nice one justin! dig the snare sound. that and the programming kinda reminds me of 'world in my eyes' a bit... kind of a 'violator' vibe! i like the fact that there are actually dynamics! the chorus is louder than the verse, and it's not smashed to **** in the mastering!

very tastefully done. that sax solo needed some spx90 'symphonic', though, or 'pitch change C'.... then again, that would probably disqualify it from the 'tasteful' comment I just made... But it would make me want to burn out into the sunset in an Iroc-Z.

Looking forward to hearing the whole record!

JMJ: just curious: do you get more joy out of producing a song like this in the studio with unlimited resources or being able to nail a performance live?

This is a great studio recording. As a matter of fact I've listened to it 12 time according to my ipod-o-meter. It's definitely something I'll add to a playlist, however, M83 is touring and I was thinking this song is going to be extremely difficult to do live. What's your plan; a lot of tapes and recording during the show?

I think I like both for very different reasons.

Live, I dont' want to reveal too much, partially because I haven't made a plan for all the songs yet. Anthony Gonzalez and I will be developing and programming the show soon, and will take things case by case.

Sometimes, rather than trying to replicate something that's very innately a studio creation, it's better to just "remix" it and make a new/unique rendering.

So glad you all are enjoying the 1st single. :)

Album out on Oct 18, vinyl coming out concurrently, according to my contacts at Mute. And yes, the vinyl is two discs, four sides. Sounds ridic.

Best,
JMJ

I think that it's the best place for this.
