Seem to be alternatives to Taylor GS e-Mini…

I have the Taylor mini bass, so I don't need a Martin, but if I had to buy a short acoustic bass now, I would probably compare the Taylor and the Martin (I prefer with no cutaway)

I disagree. I used to have a huge jumbo with a tiny sound, now I have a tiny Taylor GS mini, it has an enormous sound, much bigger than the sound of the jumbo ABG. Don't know about the Martin obvioulsy…

Well the thing is, next to each other all the bigger ones sound smaller. Go figure

I just wish they would make a set of flats that work with these mini basses. Maybe physics is in the way, but both my full-size acoustic bass guitars come to life with EB cobalt flats.

As far as the minis go, if I wanted a smaller ABG, I'd go for a Kala. Which I own.

Amazing that the specs indicate solid top, solid back and solid sides. Not even my USA made Martin B-1e can claim that. All sold except sides.

I'm sure Martin makes as fine an acoustic bass as anyone, but it seems a shame that they put all that expertise and effort into making something that will never be heard acoustically other than on a couch.

I do think that, if you want an acoustic bass, you want a mini one - smaller acoustical instruments, while they don't play loudly on their own, tend to do better when amplified in terms of being more resistant to feedback. I've always like mini acoustics when doing FOH - you have a much better chance of getting a good sound when amplified with a mini or concert size guitar than you do with a dreadnought or jumbo.

Some people might think that, but I have yet to find a small acoustic bass that sounds as good as this...yes, including Kala U and their ilk.
As for feedback, only when I take it off and lean it up against something.

You know I love my Dean Exotica w/Aphex…but my recently purchased Guild Jumbo Junior is quite loud when played unplugged.

I remember the Fender T-Bucket being louder than many other acoustic basses, but I might not be remembering accurately.
Other than that, I haven't played unplugged since 2014 when I bought a Dean EABC...$125 at the GC in Whitehall.
I wanted something to learn on, bought a Hillsboro single a few months later, and that acoustic bass pointed me in the right direction.
Since I don't play unplugged, I bought this just last week for those MTV Unplugged situations.
Definitely a step up from the Roland Micro Cube.

The resonator basses are pretty loud, too, but tapewounds wouldn't cut it compared to the factory strings, and since I only use tapewounds...
