New member who would like some advice.

To start off, I've been playing on and off for 14 years, I started on bass when I was 18 and then guitar when I was 20 and that has been my main instrument since. I have tried to get a progressive metal project (Called Habu) up and running for a few years but I've had very little success because there just aren't that many like-minded musicians (We could never keep drummers) in a city the size of Derby (who weren't already in bands). So... If I'm a guitarist then why am I on here, well... A guy at work (who was sort of in my ill-fated metal project) had restarted a project (Guided by Fire) I had played bass on in 2009 and asked me to play bass on it again, and after that another guy from Habu had joined Await The Dawn and they needed a bass player so I joined them.

The situation is I have two working basses, both 5 strings, one fretted and one fretless, a borrowed compressor but nothing else, so I'm looking for an amp, cab, and maybe some effects.

So basically I need an amp that can keep up with a loud drummer and two 7-string guitarists. I'm not sure on cabs other than I want 10 inch speakers. A friend who builds cabs has said that for my application, a good 2x10 would be better than an average 4x10 because I would benefit from the added clarity and punch and not necessarily need the movement of air. (He's a doom player and uses two 8x10s)

I'm considering getting him to build me a cab (if I can afford one of his) so do you have any recommendations for speakers.

That's me.
