New MESA BOOGIE release - MESA/Boogie Bass 800D - 800W Bass Amp Head

We have been releasing them as they come off the production line and pass all the QC testing steps.

The popularity of this model caught us (and our dealers) a little off guard, it’s a nice problem to have but not exactly planned.
Well Sweetwater said available in November, and here we are on Halloween and it's already ready to ship, so you'll hear no complaints out of me. Now if Wednesday will just hurry up and get here

Here’s to hoping there’s some catch up with the shipments down under! January is a lil closer but still got some serious new amp envy! Haha.
If your dealer is backordered with this production run, January sounds about right with container shipping time, accounting for the holidays, and all the customs, regulatory stuff and inland freight. Shipping to AU/NZ is not easy nor quick, there are a lot of hoops to jump through.

The shipment may also be delayed waiting for other products on that order, including guitar amp/cab products.

Yep, lots of stuff to consider when something is being shipped overseas. On the other hand, it's great to see Mesa being swamped with orders over this amp. Can't wait for Wednesday to get here so I can finally plug in and turn that master to 11 🤣

Thanks for this :) all understood, lots of moving parts - rest assured mesa gear is always worth the wait!!

I don't understand the language so can anyone tell me if this is what the amp actually sounds like or is there a pedal being used?

It sounds to me like a Darkglass pedal is being used, those gain settings are too low for that level of distortion, also the voicing screams Darkglass (or similar).

According to the manuals this amp's signal to noise ratio is 9dB better than the WD-800 (also a great amp).
This is nice to see.
It's a very quiet amp, a much more straight forward signal path and a different tube gain circuit. Low noise floor was something that was a priority given how this amp is likely to be used. It's considerably quieter than the Bass 400+ as well.

Thank you very much. So many posters are so quick to say "it doesn't matter if the audience can't hear it" that I expected someone would say that. So dismissive! Well, it does matter to me in the bedroom/studio scenario, and I'm relieved to hear that others care too.

I owned a Bass 400+. If these tone controls work like that then they would stay at about where the manual says is flat, and not move. But that was not the only amp I've owned whose tone controls never moved, and I have some great (and quiet) EQ boxes if necessary.

Had some time this weekend to whip up another comparison with the bass 400. I didn't realize before the 800D had some cab sim based on the subway 15 on the DI when I did the first one, so to make it a little more comparable I downloaded the subway 15 IR on my captor x to use on the bass 400. I didn't try to get them sounding identical, but "pretty close" with a few basses, and then tracked some lines with a couple backing tracks.

For the part with the grabber, that is the natrual distortion from both amps with the gain cranked, I think on the 800D it's in low gain mode but dialed up higher, I didn't make drastic eq changes for the driven sounds, a little more HPF and maybe less low end on the 800D, left the 400 alone on the EQ but dialed the master a little lower (the captor peaks at one point, you'll see it glow red briefly). I don't think I'd run either amp dirty like that normally, I use pedals to achieve the distortion I want generally. Everything here was tracked raw bass > amp and no added processing in the DAW, so some parts could benefit from compression or whatnot, but that wasn't the point of this exercise.

Now that's an amp comparison video, great job! That 69 P cuts through the mix better than the 78 Jazz. Glad you used a P and a Jazz. That's a good reference point to file in the back of my brain. And the Grabber, well it's a Grabber, love the grit. As far as the amps, yeah you got em sounding as close to each other as I think anyone will ever get. Can't wait for my 800D to get here Wednesday! Guess I'll have to sit down and do a comparison between it and my D-800+

Great video and nice playing!

Can you post a pic of the 800D settings? I want to compare them to some of the factory settings Mesa provides in the user manual, thanks!
