    Hi all,

After my trusty Boss GT-6B finally threw in the towel I decided to retire her, I also wanted something new after 10 plus years. I briefly checked out the Line 6 HX effects and the Boss GT-1000 but to be honest the learning curve/complicated menus and overwhelming options turned me off, which is a bummer as some of the effects were really nice. Another downfall was the modelling, which I have no use for and just want something with high quality effects.

Then I decided to go the individual pedal route, got a comp, env filter, phaser and delay and while I really like it, I hate now having to buy a pedalboard, patch cables and power supplies and a case to transport it in. I really miss the multi effect efficiency and patch saving ability and think that's just what I prefer.

I'm really interested in the QUAD CORTEX but my buddy said if the other units were too unnecessarily complicated for me then the quad would be way over my head.

So, that being said, what's out there that could meet my needs that you recommend?
Price isn't an issue, just want top quality effects without all the other stuff....

    Thanks

The HX FX has no amp modeling and is one of the easier multi effects units to program. You may want to consider giving it another shot...

H9 is effects only and can be reasonably easy to program. It can only do one effect at a time but they are world class quality. All of these types of devices have learning curves but once you are familar they are pretty intuitive depending on how deep you want to dive. I would also suggest hx effects.

Funny you should say that the H9 is definitely on my radar… I dunno, One of my best friends loves line 6 helix and a lot of their products I just kinda been anti-Line 6 a long time…But they are owned by Yamaha now which is a company I have a huge respect for

Lately, Mod Devices has caught my attention. The warning, as per reviews, seems to be their first model (the DUO) was a little noisy. This is a newer floorboard version fit for live use. All in all a good concept if it keeps getting develped, definitely will keep an eye on their stuff as it grows (hopefully it does).

This one has me intrigued, and the format is exactly what I’m after….unfortunately it got some mixed reviews

  10. I'm quite surprised you feel the helix is tough to navigate especially coming from a boss gt6 as the boss stuff has always felt really hard for me to navigate. To me the helix is the easiest multi effect/modeler to navigate on the market and my hx fx is even easier still as it is just the effects side of the helix

The nice thing about the GT6b is it’s mostly still knob based and not menu based, although I tried a GT 1000 and it was super complicated......I think with the HX effects I was just looking for an excuse not to like it perhaps

    Usual effects forum threads...

OP- I'm looking for pedal suggestions. I tried "pedal x" and didn't gel with it.

Regular posters- You should buy another "pedal x".

Bit of a while since this was posted, just checking if anyone has dipped their toes into what looks a very promising device. There is one for sale at the moment on Facebook and am worrying if it's worth taking a shot. Any opinions out there?

The line 6 stuff is super easy to configure. The depth to go much further than basic pedal board emulation is certainly there, but you can be up and running with a useable gigging pedal very easily. I’m using the hex edit desktop software to do most of my editing and that makes it even easier.
That being said, the pod go has an even more simplified GUI with the same exact sounds. The pod doesn’t have all of the available routing and chaining options as the HX line, but if you are just looking for a simple multi, it doesn’t get much easier.

I'm not really looking for a quick fix for effects, and the Mod Duo looks to my eyes that a fair chunk of learning is involved but from the bits I've seen it has the processing power of a pc enabling a raft of IR sims that sound really good so just hopeful somebody has tried one out yet to enlighten us all.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's one of a few I hadn't properly looked at. Going by reviews it's a winner but the price is steep and no DI which I thought strange given the cost, however the installed pre amps looks interesting but enough to trump what I have already, a DSM Simplifier, a Quilter stomp and a Battalion? I'm not sure. For an all in one unit though it's tough to beat, and the recording aspect is desirable too to me. Decisions, decisions...

I went through many a high end DI, before deciding the passive one they have at my church, sounded just as good. I have the CORE, a Becos mini compressor and 4 aux switches, and that is my board. Sounds equally good through IE’s and my live rig. Lots of options for parallel routing, which has changed the way I use my FX!

Nice, that's what I'm aiming for too and those three fx loops are a big draw so I think we're on the same page. No real deal breaker having no DI, I have a passive one too when the need arises but my main concern is my rig
which is needed for most of my gigs. I am, and should be indebted to my CMD Markbass combo, it covers all the gigs I do and is small and light and worry free for the last 15 years, a 2007 model, but my heads been turned by a Mackie Thump full range PA 15"cab. 1200w, two channels @ 600w and only 6lbs heavier and 6" taller. Bi amping is an option here as well and I don't think the CORE will suit that, have to check it out, probably have to sell to get one though.

It will easily do Bi amp. Xover and everything!
