noticed you praised it in an earlier post. i just ordered one in an attempt to have a versatile bass that will fit in most anywhere soundwise and visually.
will you be using yours much live or in the studio? any more that you can say about your experience with it? is the passive p tone any more convincing than most other pj basses? thanks!!!

I have a P bass deluxe that was purchased late 2009. All I can tell you is you won't regret buying it. I won't go into details about passive vs. active( boring !) , suffice it to say that you made the right choice..........................:cool:

I like mine - it's really quite good. A great sound, a great neck, and I like the controls. JUST enough modern for me during certain circumstances. I'm using it right now on the new Garbage record. Three small issues:

- The pickup blend knob seems counter-intuitive, in that I rotate it the wrong way for the neck pickup every time.

- The blend of both pickups seem to be just slightly too thin sounding; probably just my taste...so I always barely favor the neck pickup.

- The passive sound is, for whatever reason, NOT as punchy or as hot as a passive PJ bass such as my Tony Franklin bass or Yamaha BB.

I've been tossing up between this and the Steve Harris Sig.. Both priced similarly but the American Deluxe comes with a hardcase.. The Harris is definitely meatier so I think i'm leaning more that way.. Plus,, the blue sparkle finish and the mirror pickguard are straight pimpin'.. Have any of you guys had experience with the Harris P??

OK - my two cents? The Tony Franklin (IF you don't need to have a slicing, modern sound on tap) is the winner for sick passive tone...I LOVE that bass. That Steve Harris one sure is purty! Good call, too! If you don't need two pickups, how about just buy that?

Thanks for the reply Justin.. I don't really need a cutting modern tone for the things i'm doing at the moment so either the Franklin or the Harris would be better suited to my needs.. Plus,, i've got a Jaguar and a Stingray5 if i need the active side of things.. I know the P sound is what i want and what i love yet for some reason i've just never bought one.. I think that needs to change.. Sorry for the rant.. Just typing as i think..

I feel the same way about mine. It really does the sounds I need for now, but it would be nice to have a hot, passive PJ too, even though I don't desperately need it. I would really, really love to get my hands on the BB2024x, but I haven't found any in my area, and It's too rich for me anyway. :atoz:

BTW, I think it's great you're using it on some Garbage tracks. Seems like it would be great for that familiar tone with a bit of modern cut. Really suited for the task.

Yeah, it's good on the Garbage stuff, for sure. And this other indie record I just did at Oceanway. That Yamaha is the BUSINESS for that particular hot, passive tone. For reals.

You mind sharing which indie record you used it on at Oceanway? Confidential?

P.S. I think it's awesome that you post here on TB. I saw you on the Lights in the Sky tour and was amazed. I really love the Ima Robot stuff you did, and I can't wait for the new M83. I'm always astounded at the variety of session stuff you do so well. Tons of groove.

Hi there,
That record I mentioned is for an artist called Schyler...that's it. An unknown at this point. Anyway, there's other basses that will work in that capacity if that Yamaha is too expensive. It just has a very particular and awesome sound, that's all.
