so, I’ve had this Hoyt neck for a long, long, long time. Just sitting in a box in the closet. I originally got it as part of a 31” 5 string piccolo bass. It was never my thing but I knew the neck was super cool.
I have been working through unfinished projects, so I decided to do something with it. I had my buddy, Tomas, of Holgado Guitar Works make a body out of GA spalted maple. He plugged the original holes and converted it to a four. He stained the maple neck, too.
I got some Sperzel tuners and a Ray Ross bridge. And some Ringo knobs from Q-Parts.
The pickups are by Avedissian Pickups here in Atlanta. Alex is a great guy. He also did the pickup in my Bongo Frankenbass. It has an Alnico single coil in the neck and a ceramic single in the middle. Passive VVTT.
Long story short—it’s amazing and I love it. Two gigs so far. I’m looking forward to using it for my Slack Sabbath set on Oct 30th.
