Double Bass New String Problem...

Hey guys, I just recently bought some Obligatos to replace my old Helicores on my 3/4 Eastman bass. When I installed them today (my first time) 2 things went wrong. The colored wrapping at the end of the string wasn't long enough so the metal is partly wrapped around the tuner on the E and G strings. Is this OK? Also, My A string tuner turns a lot harder now. I was wondering if this stuff happens when switching up strings. Nothing else seems to be wrong, and it plays great. Thanks.

Check to make sure the string has not pushed against itself and become wedged against the inside of the pegbox. If this has happened, back the string off and wind it back on, making sure it stays away from the inside of the pegbox. That's how strings become pinched and can eventually break.

This is probably what has caused the A string to become hard to wind.
