For years I've gone back and forth between SS 4 strings and 34 scale 5 strings. Never really got to the point where I felt comfortable on either one, although I have had basses of both that I really liked. So I finally decided to try out a medium. The lack of availability both in selection and string choices always stopped me before. Well I wish I would have done this years ago. I would have saved myself a lot of troubles. Medium scale is the best of both worlds.
There won't be a "this bass is as good as a MIA Fender" here. The pickups can be noisy, it's poorly grounded and the tone knob is pretty much just a mute knob. The two volume knobs are scratchy as hell. It does sound pretty good once you get everything set where you want it. I will have to upgrade though if I ever decide to join another band that plays in front of people. That's the bad, now the good. The fit and finish is great. It's a great looking bass. The neck feels solid and so far it seems to stay in tune as well as any bass I've owned. The intonation up and down the neck is better then any other bass in this price range I've owned and just as good as the $700 Ibanez sitting next to it. Overall, it was well worth the money, even if it is just the starting point.
