New to Burbank, need a teacher

Hey everyone. Just moved up to Burbank from San Diego...and now that I won't be paying rent for awhile...I'm looking to find a good bass instructor to help me grow in technique and theory. I love composing now...and I think this may be my general direction I go as a musician.

I want to grow in every bit of genre, but would like to focus primarily on progressive rock, post rock, jazz, latin, funk, and middle-eastern music.

I'm going to a lesson tonight, June 4th, in North Hollywood for the first time with a new instructor. Haven't been to a lesson in decades but want to improve on sight reading, fretless technique and the tasteful use of the slap/pop. If he's any good I send you his contact info.

Welcome to LA. BTW, Burbank is not the center of the media world no matter what the signs say. Guess you've figured that out.

And finally, middle eastern music? That second major third gives it a characteristic sound (C-E-G in Europe, C-E-G# in Syria).

Thanks for the welcome! However, this is actually my home town, just never really lived here much. But it's nice to finally stay in the area in the which you're born.

My old friend from Houston, John Zeigler, teaches bass, although his primary emphasis is his monster guitar playing. But he could certainly open your eyes, as he is a great player, and if he was not to your liking, he could turn you onto some of the best teachers in the LA area, no doubt.

Don't let the fact that he is a six stringer mislead you. The man can teach the bass, and was reknown in Houston as the teacher of both 4 and 6 string guitars.

He has a weekly jam on mondays at the Baked Potato. Tell him Greg, a formerly from Houston drummer who occasionally played with him in his monster lineup "The Slashers" back in the late 80's said hello. He hangs and plays with some heavy cats, again, if he is not to your liking, he will know the monster teachers.

I'm actually going to be in LA in two weeks. Where are some good places in and around the west side to hear some great acts, local or otherwise. I'm big into the blues, where can I get some blues action?
