New Yamaha RBX5 A2

Wow, I wonder why there were discontinued then....and /if/ the 4 stringer has the neck dive issue I will find a way to balance it. It hasnt killed my enthusiasm for this baby coming in for me. ^_^ And yea, the weights they use to balance tires/rims, (throw a few on the back near the bottom strap button) would work!!!

On the BACK of the body? That would get in the way of your leg, wouldn't it?

Naaa put them down at the base of the body in the back near the port holes for the tubes running through the body and they wouldn't get in the way.

That's the ticket! just put some wheel weights on a 900 dollar guitar:rollno:, defeat the whole reason for the special body (light weight). I guess if you really want to you can talk yourself into anything.

LOL Im sorry but that was funny. I see what you are saying though, but really, why not? If you like a bass enough, there is always a way to fix whatever it might be that you don't like about it. And in this case the neck dive issue with the 5ers at the least. The body and sound etc etc rock on these things. Well, it has a neck dive issue...but how much do you like the axe? If you like it enough you will find a way around it to have that bass. And as light at the bodies are, you got some weight to play with so to speak...again..depends on how much you like this bass IMO.

I have a idea!! Put one of those brass plumb bobs in place of the rear strap eye. It would have that Gothic look. You would need to enlarge the strap hole but on the plus side you would not need a strap lock!!:hyper:
Just put a helium balloon on the top tuner then put some run flat goo in it to keep it from going flat.

Well, I've called three places now and NONE will ship to Canada! I'm still trying, but it seems as though, agreements in place preclude Canadians from taking part in this deal.
I've connected with the leading shops here in Toronto, but they are asking $650.00 for this bass. At that price, it's just not such a deal!

Perhaps the neck dive is noticeable on the 5 stringer more than the 4.

I have the 4 string version, there's a smidgen of neck dive, but it's really not an issue with the overall bass being so light. It's probably one of the best balanced basses I own. Although that does include a Thumb and a T'bird. But it still balances just as well or even better than my Attitude and Corvette.

You really need to try one out with a strap to decide whether the miniscule neck dive is an issue or not

The only time it doesn't seem to balance is when playing sat down, as the lower bout is rather small and sits too far back.

Oh, bear in mind I have installed a Hipshot D-tuner that adds weight and use a fatfinger as the headstock is rather small, so that affects balance slightly. But I reckon if perfect balance is a main issue a set of hipshot ultralites would be perfect on this bass.

On another issue, I'm gonna let my local guitar guru give this the one over as I can't get the action as low as I'd like compared to my Attitude which has similar radius without fretting out when I bend high notes. I think there's a couple of frets up top that aren't quite level. With a good fret level and dress this will be killer.

I use this as my spare gig bass when my Attitude or Thumb gets too much to manage on a long gig, so a good bit of quality, professional tinkering will be worth while.

From what I can gather from this thread and the thread I have up regarding the sale going on with the 4 string, its just the 5 that seems to have a neck dive problem. So if you are wanting a 4 that shouldn't be a problem I would think. ^_^

I agree with what ga_edwards stated. Very little neck dive on the 4, and any issue I have with the bass while seated is more about the small lower horn than weight issues. With the bass strapped on I have no dive - I don't have to support the neck at all while playing.

My 5 also has no neck dive issues, but at 8lbs. even, I have a feeling it's on the heavy side for one of these basses.
