Hey guys.
So I have absolutely zero recording experience, nada, zip, zilch.
The other night I was wishing that I had the ability to record how my rig sounds, maybe record some covers, you know stuff for my mom and for the amps section of the forum lol. Basically just a single mic.
Today I was jamming with some guys and guitarist suggested we start recording the jams so as to better critique ourselves and hopefully start songwriting.
It seems like now is the time that I get into recording so I thought I'd mosey on over here
Anyway here goes:
Right now I basically only have need for a single microphone. The uses would be primarily bedroom stuff and using the mic as a sort of overhead to record live jam sessions to facilitate songwriting and self reflection. I imagine I'll need some sort of software? Should I go with one of those single USB microphones or is it worth it to use an interface and normal microphone? What are my options? I have a hard budget at $100. How would maybe a handheld Tascam perform for my sort of needs?
I understand the idea of getting one of those 8 or 16 channel interfaces so that later on I can expand to having multiple microphones but that sort of decision hypothesizes that I'll eventually own $600 dollars in microphones and those big interfaces alone cost $200-$400. I don't ever see myself spending $1000 dollars on recording equipment because I have very personal interest in production.
Anyway, thanks for the input guys!
