Hello all! I have a Indonesian SUB Sterling. Can I replace the stock 3 knob/2band for an East MMSR 3 knob/3band? I think so, just wanted to be sure...thx in advance.

MMSR 3 KNOB 3 BAND - MM STYLE - BASS

In addition, I plan to add the Nordstrand MM4.2, it seems like this is a common swap as per this site.

MM4.2 Dual Coil

Really no reason to upgrade, I'm just a newb, less than a year, really enjoying practicing/hacking on this bass (on a Fender Bronco 40) and just want to make it mine/unique. And as we all know, money spent on bass equals huge gains in skill....lol

btw: I only have this one bass so I cant sneak another bass by the wife but she wont notice upgraded parts! ...thx again all, great forum

Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along to help soon, but I'd just rock it as is, and throw that money at another bass. Much like mine, I'm sure your wife has stuff she spends $$$$ on.

Crater, While I appreciate the response and the reference. My question isn't about plate fitment. Reading the East site it wasn't clear to me .

Can I simply swap from the existing 3 knob/2 band to the East 3 knob/3 band without any other modifications? Remember I'm as novice as novice gets....

Well, unless someone who tried this exact same mod comes and comments, your guess is as good as anyone's. It sure seems like it should fit. But there's always a small a chance that additional mods may be necessary (eg slightly enlarge the cavity).

There's no issue of electronic compatibility between either your stock SUB pickup or a replacement pickup, whether it's Nordstrand or another brand. The East preamps should work fine with any passive pickup.

In general, practically all preamps are compatible with practically all passive pickups.

If you're worried about the Nordstrand pickup fitting into the SUB's body, get a ruler and measure the size of the stock pickup, and compare it to the Nordstrand to confirm they're the same size, the dimensions are listed on the webpage you linked.
