Newb with an Ibanez SR705

So I'm new to this forum. I have been playing for 5 years. I just picked up a 5 string bass because I wanted o go from 4 strings to five. My first bass was a Ibanez SR 304. I don't know anything about anything. I don't know the difference between a soft sound or a hard sound. I don't know what pick ups do. I can't read music. Everything I have learned has been by playing a tape, cd or listening to a radio. Everyone says I play good. I just follow what they do by ear. I'm looking forward to learning these things real soon. They opened a music store close to my house and I can start learning taking lessons. Maybe I'll develop a better ear. Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. Now to look for the technical help as to why my brand new Ibanez SR 705 is making a wierd sound when I turn one of the knobs all the way up.

If your turning up the small knob closest to the jack, its the treble knob. Mine makes a high pitched electronic sound when turned up all the way b/c my amp already has a pretty high treble setting. Just keep it at 12 or adjust your amp.
