Newbie from San Diego

Hello, I am a relative newbie to bass, although I have owned my bass for several years. Recently I have spent all my music time with the bass and like it more and more each time. I am also a guitar player for 40+ years. I also play the keys a little and study music theory. I do all this as a total amateur with modest talent at best, but I have fun. Anyway, the point I'm building up to is I have tremendous respect for bass players and the role of the bass in a group. I know a lot of guitarist pick up the bass and play guitar an octave lower. I don't want to be "that guy." Right now I am learning and working on some classic Motown/James Jamerson stuff and a little UB40. I have an Ibanez GSR 200 (the older model with passive pickups) and a G-K Backline 110. This setup is great for my practicing. I'm hoping to find some opportunities to jam with a group at some point, then I'll get an appropriate amp and perhaps upgrade the bass. I've watched this forum for a long time, but just finally joined.

Here's my rig and messy family room.
