Newbie...need recommendations

If you want some tube tone, look for a gently used Hartke LH. 500 or 1000. Tons of power, inexpensive and for me anyway, my LH 1000 has been a delightfully reliable amp for over a decade of many, many gigs, rehearsals and home practices. This includes load-ins & out. Storage, overnight cold gear trailer life, and getting banged about. Fires right up. They do weigh about 35-40lbs.

The LH1000 8ohms (bridge mode) into one 2 x 10 LDS cab. Once in a while, I'd use both cabs.

I'll admit, I use a Mesa WD800 now (mostly because of weight) BUT, it ain't my LH1000 when it comes to humbling loud drummers.
The Mesa was about $950 new +tax. The LH1000 was $599 back in '08 when I got it. They're still a nice economical way to go. Tone at the volume you need is a beautiful thing.
