Newbie Q - crack on new Bass

Hey all... complete newbie here, and I have a question for you

I just received my new bass in the mail (amazon). I picked it based on common recommendations for beginner bass guitars. The Ibanez GSR200.

When I unboxed it, there was a hairline crack by one of the knobs. Not sure if it was from shipping, or when they drilled it.

My question is really if this matters at all. I could return it for a replacement, but it will take a while and I want to get started learning to play.

If the crack is only a cosmetic issue, I'll just keep it as is. This is only a practice bass.

If it's something more (like is it going to get bigger, or interfere with the sound?) then I'll return it.

What would you do if you were me?

I would absolutely return it. It looks like it took a hit to one of the knobs.

Yeah, I agree and the wood is thin there. If you should decide to keep it, it would be a good idea to open the control cavity and push out on the wood to get it flush and then flood the surface of the wood with CA the strengthen it up. I'd return it. Attempting a repair as I've suggested may well void the warranty too.

You paid for new. Damaged is what you got.

They pay for the return and send you something else.

GSR200 is a great bass to start on.

Yes, it is exciting to finally be in possession of a bass.
That said, you've waited this long, send it back for a new, undamaged bass.
It's better to wait a few more weeks now than month after month, year after years later thinking,
"I shoulda sent it back and they would've done it for free"
You'll thank yourself in the future.
You bought the bass to play, not to use as an instrument to learn guitar repair.
