Newbie Question

Hello to all.
I have decided to pick up the bass again after a 25 year hiatus. As you know better than me musical instrument technology has advanced and I'm way behind. I've been hitting up the local music stores and playing a few basses and the Fender 57 P-bass reissue feels really good, especially the neck (showing my age again). Are there any other manufacturers out there using necks with dimensions similar to what the 57 has on it?

There are a number of dimentions to look at. Nut width, radius, string spacing etc. Most companies have similar dimentions and they are all based on the fenders, P or J.

How much money do you want to spend, # of Strings etc. all play an active role in what you buy. My advice is this, don't get hung up on the specs, buy the bass that feels the best in you hands. Lakland, Musicman, MTD are all great basses but very different and great in thier own way.

Good luck and have fun looking for the perfect bass.

check out a new Lakland 44-64 or a used Bob Glaub. they are the same models....just recently renamed....I had a 2002 model and LOVED the neck feel...and sound...the ONLY reason i got rid of it was because I bought a 5 string version!

lakland quality (even on the Skyline series) is fantastic and the customer service is even better!

I had a similar situation to yours...did not play for over 10 years...upon coming back in , I bought a RIC and a MIA Fender....owned both until I got my first lakie....now they are gone...
