Double Bass Neyman rosin

so last night, after not having used the rosin for a while, I note that the top of the cake is chipped off and the color of the resin under it is more like the color of light timber, a yellowish-brown so to speak...is that suppose to happen or has the cake gone bad (no jokes about it being left out in the rain please )

I presume you meant 'Nyman' rosin and actually, that happened to me when I made a harder inaccurate stroke, resulting in a kind of chipped chunk falling off and leaving a spot of color you are talking about. It is nothing special as far as I know and has nothing to do with the quality or age of rosin.

It's just what happens when you get a rough surface on the break. Nothing to worry about.
