Nice small PA system on last 2 gigs.

I just got one of these, an Electro-Voice EVOLVE 50M. Sounds terrific!!

How big was your crowd? What kind of music do you play?

Our sound guy has a pair of these. We have our own slightly bigger PA that we use most of the time but for smaller gigs we've used them and they sound great. One time we were playing a small private party for around 50 people, and it was only after sound check we realised we'd forgotten to turn them both on - the power and coverage from one was enough for a small room. That was with a full band going through them, no stage amps and electronic drums - no other sound from the "stage".

While these sort of systems are seen as DJ/accoustic act systems, I've used two of them for another full on rock band in a medium size bar and the were more than enough.

I’m subbing for a band that has two Bose columns. I’m astounded by how well they perform for vocals, acoustic guitar, mild overdrive guitar and drums. I didn’t DI my bass to it, but will have a chance tomorrow. This stands in stark contrast to my regular band that has powered mains, monitors and a sub - which is overkill for 99% of our gigs.

Curious about the DI for bass.

After 50+ years of hearing live music, I have been very disappointed in some recent years regarding the outrageous DB levels of some venues.

These high-quality systems mentioned above, when used rationally, allow the audience to hear your music, not your anger/noise/mud :)

YMMV!

I mentioned this in another thread ... I'm moving to a small house and space is a premium. As I'll be needing a small PA for a gig project, I decided to get one that also works well as a "bass combo." The 50M sounds superb. The top end volume is 127dB but I'll never be there! There's a short-pole option that puts the top of the array at shoulder/head height. Less hassle to set up than some dedicated bass rigs! But watch out -- the band will be jealous and want to put everything through your array!
