"Noiseless" pickup emits buzz

Hey folks-

The other day I picked up a used Fender American Deluxe P-bass -- spectacular instrument, plays like a dream and offers a wide variety of tonal possibilities, but I have an issue with hum/buzz in the N3 "Noiseless" single-coil pickup in the bridge position. Generally it's quiet until (in active mode) I turn the mids near or past 50 percent, or (in passive mode) I turn the tone knob close to its brightest setting.

Is this an issue with the pickup, or is it something (relatively) simple involving the wiring or ground connection? I have three months under warranty so I have the option of getting it looked into, I was just hoping someone here would have a little bit of insight. I tried searching the forums but couldn't come up with anything conclusive. Thanks :D
