Noisy Input Jack

Yesterday I was playing my bass through my amp, it was perfectly fine. Then this morning I go ahead and plug it in, it was really nose... and then I noticed that the cable could be pushed in more and then the sound would die, but either way if I turn up the volume... no sound goes through my amp.

What could be wrong and is it repairable? (costs?)

Thanks,

-Bathead

Output jacks go bad pretty commonly. You can try to take a look inside, if it's a 'strat style' where you can see and get at the connection points, you can manually bend the pieces so that they get a better connection. If its a LP style (closed/sealed barrel) there's not much you can do, except try cleaning it, a little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip works fine.
If it needs replacement, the part is typically about $10, I imagine a tech would have to charge $30 or so for labor, but if you or a friend are at all handy with a soldering iron it is about the easiest job in the realm of bass repair.

Yes, very simple to fix if you have basic soldering skills (assuming it needs soldering)

Try as said above, just gently bending the pieces with pliers.

It might just need a touch of spray cleaner which you can buy at RadioShack or similar electronics stores.
