Noisy PJB micro 7

Missed this thread and bought a
PJB Micro 7 from a fellow TBer.
And yes, there is audible white noise at practice levels.
The thing is ...this is a practice amp!
PJB should have done a better job because they market it as a home practice combo.
It is 50 watts after all and the level (gain) doesn't do much for a passive bass - it will never clip - and it is therefore not loud enough for much else - even as a monitor.
A work around is to drive it with a pre-amp pedal, or similar, to boost the input. I did this and got much better volume out of it - plus ran the line - level to FOH. It worked okay with the amp on a stand. Decent tones and the white noise wasn't noticable in the hall environment. But, I wouldn't buy again.

Here is a pic of my fix for running the Micro 7 well with a passive bass. Disconnected the tweeter to remove the hiss. Using the clean channel of the MXR only as a boost. The distortion channel turned down serves as a mute. Plus l gained a direct line out! When life gives you a lemon...make lemonade!
