I know the "do everything yourself" contigent will laugh at me for saying this but there's nothing necessarily wrong with developing a solid reputation with a GOOD tech. They can be invaluable, from simple fixes to super complicated ordeals. You could begin there... by asking for help live an in-person, although there have definitely been some good suggestions so far.

No, I agree. But I think this one is a good learning experience. Plus, unless you have an inside track on a good tech, you can very easily get roped in by a hack or a scammer.

I don't know how things are everywhere, but where I'm at, there's very few good techs. And I've asked a LOT of people. There are 3 or 4 guys in my area who are "good techs" and they have a LONG waiting list for stuff to get done. There are dozens of hacks who I wouldn't trust to tie a shoe for me and they charge as much as or more than the good techs.

I guess my point is, ask around so you can get a line on who'd be good for you. That way, if there IS a need for a new jack, you have your guy. You know?

If you've only been playing 5 months & you bought the bass new from a store, take it back to where you bought it & make them fix it, should be a warranty issue.
