You meant songwriter/guitar-whiz Richard Thompson. Also Todd Rundgren, Jack Bruce, Dan Hicks, George Duke, David Lindley, Pharaoh Sanders, Taj Mahal, NRBQ, Jean Luc Ponty, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Debbie Harry, Carla Bley & her daughter Karen Mantler, Ivo Papasov, The Residents, Miles Davis, bassist Rob Wasserman, and many more. That TV show (which went by two titles: "Night Music" and "Sunday Night") was wonderful. Sanborn would invite performers who were not usually seen on TV and would also pair up people who might not otherwise have ever played together, with usually wonderful results.Yes, I saw a lot of those and David had a show that featured other players and I can’t remember the name of that one. Omar Hakim, Hiram, and Marcus were usually on that show. I remember Stevie Ray, Richard Thomas (?) and Bootsy on that show and I’m sure I’ll remember more as I think about it. Those show are on YouTube.
Oh no. I have been moving all my vinyl to my other house a small stack at a time. I was pleasantly surprised to find I have four of his albums. Listened to them last weekend. He will be missed....who had Marcus Miller lending his stellar bass chops to a lot of Sanborn's music.
David introduced many fine players to the mainstream jazz music scene.
I listen to a lot of other artists besides great bassists and I am particularly fond of David Sanborn and his music.
He will be so sadly missed....
He was also featured in the tour that resulted in David Live, recorded at the Tower Philadelphia in 1974:I knew he was on Bowie’s Young Americans record...

.Right Deej? Very sad to hear of this.Oh man

Soulful and responsive (a good listener), plus reportedly a genuinely nice person.ahh crap...I'm a former sax player...really like his style and tone
This is very sad news. I've been a Dave Sanborn fan since the '70s. (edit - late '60s with Paul Butterfield). I've enjoyed his YT sessions of late that have introduced me to some very fine players I'd not heard before. His generous and inclusive attitude as well as his musicianship were inspiring. His solo on Paul Butterfield's 'In My Own Dream' may have been when I first became aware of his tone, soulful feel and note choices. A great loss....who had Marcus Miller lending his stellar bass chops to a lot of Sanborn's music.
