Any of the Bass players for Jethro Tull:
Glen Cornnick
Jeff Hammond
John Glascock (R.I.P.)
Jon Noyce
Dave Pegg
All of these guys are top flight players that deserve far more recognition than they have recieved from the bass community especially.
Peter "Mars" Cowling (Pat Travers Band) absolute monster player. Listen to "Live - Go For What You Know" especially the song "Makes No Difference"
Sydney Sheldon (Peter Frampton) I know everyone has heard "Do You Feel Like We Do" off of the live album many times, go listen to it again but this time really listen. Sydneys' tone is amazing on that album and it really stands out on that track. (another it of trivia: other than Peter Frampton, Sydney is the only person from the band on album who is still alive)
Steve Fossen (Heart) - Always loved his tone and his playing is very tasteful. After he and Roger Fisher left the band Heart was never the same.
Tim Schmit (The Eagles/ Poco) - Again, tone and tastful playing, great singer as well.
Jim Lea (Slade) - Come on...Slade! What more needs to be said.
Allen Woody (Govt Mule/ The Allman Brothers) Listen to Govt Mule's "Dose" you'll get the picture! R.I.P. Allen.
Doug Pinnick (Kings X) One of the best aggressive rock tones, easily gives Timmy C. a run for his money. His 12 string work is some of the best there is. Listen to "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska", "Faith, Hope, Love' and "Dogman" for their best work.
Rick Laird (Mahavishnu Orchestra) One of the most overlooked bassplayers of the early Jazz Fusion era. Not as flashy as Jaco or Stanley Clarke but his work with MO is worthy of attention.
Andy West (Dixie Dregs) Fantastic player in another of the great 70's Fusion bands. I perfer his playing to his replacement Dave LaRue who is also under-rated.
Rob Wasserman - Played with a huge list of people. Check out his solo CDs "Duet" and "Trio"
Kerry Hatch and John Avila - Oingo Boingo.
Pete Trewavas - Marillion
Mike Rutherford - Genesis, equal parts guitarist and bassist. I am most fond of Genesis when they were in their Prog phase, basically everything up to "Duke"
