I just bought a brand new Ernie Ball bongo for $1014 out the door from my local GC....they are trying to get rid of there bongo stock, so if anyone is in the market for a bongo now is a good time to buy:bassist::D

Probably lack of sales. While it seems like tons of people have them when you look at Talkbass the reality is that Talkbass members are a niche group. On a whole weird body shapes are harder to sell then the classics. I am sure that MM sells a quantity of Bongos that they are happy with but it was never designed to sell as much as the Stingray. My local MM shop does not like to get any Bongo stock either because it will hang on his wall for 2 years versus the Stingrays that are gone as soon as he hangs them. Same thing with the Albert Lee guitar. He had one in at one time and it hung there for so long that he never got another one in again. He will special order one for you of course. In stores especially in these tough times it just doesn't make sense to waste store space on models that don't sell quick.

Not jealous for you having one, since I have one myself (better looking as a matter of fact :p), but I am jealous for the ridiculous price you payed for it! I payed a whopping 1900 euro's for a new one which is about 2800 dollars! I really don't understand the price difference, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone was rubbing his or her hands in a very scouring fashion :p.

No, they weren't. Not unless they were blowing them out and thats usually because they've been abused so much they esentially become "used" basses. People don't buy them in GCs because they ARE knocked to all hell and they can be bought online or just about anywhere else for the same price in better condition or without having to pay tax. People also often want specific colors and won't buy one off the wall if their heart is set on something different. Hence, GC has blowout sales on Bongos. Did I mention they never adjust their necks, change the strings and batteries, or do any kind of maintenance on the basses?

PS.. Why do you feel the need to say that to someone who just told you they paid $1014? Just curious?
