NPD: Tricked Out Grey Stache

So I usually browse Guitar Center’s website for basses and effects to see if I can get any steals. Used prices on their website seem to have no rational basis sometimes. I’ve been looking to try a Fuzzrocious Grey Stache and saw this one pop up for $120. It has the dual sustainer option, a clean blend, and diode toggle. All for $120 (more like $150 with taxes and shipping). Anyways, this piece of equipment is awesome! Haven’t put it through it’s full paces yet, but loving it so far. I prefer the smoother character of Civil War clones so this hits a nice spot. I opened it up and it’s a “V3” from 2015 per the board. I don’t know which diodes it has in the box, but I took a picture and hoped someone might have some insight. One looks like LEDs to my naive eyes.

I love a tricked out Grey Stache, but FYI you could have bought a standard model direct from Fuzzrocious or from a dealer for $145.00 with shipping included, or a bit more for a modded version, giving you a new pedal under warranty plus a bit more money in the builder's pocket. I don't say this for purposes of shaming, because I've certainly bought used pedals in my day to save bucks when needed (including a Grey Stache, ironically, although I've also bought two others Staches from Fuzzro or a dealer directly), but it's nice to keep in mind when dealing with smaller builders particularly.

But yeah, it's the fuzz to end all fuzzes in my opinion.

Edit: Also yes, looks like LEDs to me as well.

LEDs and LEDs and LEDs and smokin' the silicon. Not sure what kind exactly, but you could probably email Fuzzrocious and find out.

Thanks! Yea, I generally prefer buying from either the pedal maker or from here on the classifieds or an individual, but this deal was too good to pass up. But always a good reminder to support the builders who make awesome products, such as Fuzzrocious. I did buy a Cat Tail from Fuzzrocious directly and ended up selling it because the RAT just isn't my bag. And I see a lot of people have bought multiple Grey Staches, which I probably will do because I have a problem, so next ones will be from Fuzzrocious or a dealer.

Ohhh! Secret Knob. I'm guessing you can't tell us what the secret knob does or you would have to kill us. But I can't say I am not intrigued by the mystery!

pre fuzz-circut tone pot.

So... when I play fuzz, the first thing I ALWAYS do is roll the tone off 100% on my bass, to get a super 60's fuzzed out, Grand Funk / Captain Beefheart / Tuba sound.

Tuba Fuzz.

This is fine for whole sets, or whole tunes where I'm doing the 60's fuzz thing.

But I was in a project recently where I had to jump in and out of a more treble-y grindy P-bass tone, right into a 60's fuzz for just a couple bars. Not enough time to roll back the tone knob on the bass (then roll it back up when the section was over).

The secret pre fuzz-circuit tone knob basically emulates the behaviour of turning down my tone pot before hitting the fuzz.

Wow, that's a score. I've had my eye on the CME Grey Stache (adds a blend knob to OG pedal).
