I've almost pulled the trigger on one of these second hand a few times, but I figured my active bass has tone controls, as well as my GenzBenz heads being quite versatile. Still, I can see where it would come in handy somewhere in a pedal chain.

I hear this unit can suffer from some (edit) noise, and there is an Analogman mod that will take care of that. I was looking at one in the classifieds here last week that had the mod. Have you noticed any noise with yours?

Anyway, a most excellent and useful gift! Put it to good use and it should serve you well for a long time

Nice gift indeed ! I currently use mine as a clean boost, but it also saw action as a typical eq and even as a clean preamp, in a scaled-down pedalboard.

The GEB7 is a classic and a eq/boost/cut is an useful tool to have in your gigbag at all times.

I use a Dano Fish & Chips EQ--but one specifically for bass, and a sturdier one--is cool.

Edited my post above to inquire about noise, & not a volume drop at unity. I ask because a friend was just mentioning that with his, yet I know plenty use them unmodded. I gather a few random units may suffer from it, and it might depend on what else you feed it.

It's great as is, but if you ever do decide to improve its SNR...

Modders include (in no specific order):

- Analogman
- Loophole
- Monte Allums
- Cmatmods
- Keeley
- Modest Mike's Mods
- Fromel​

There's probably a few more out there.


Common Mods performed:

- Replacing cheap factory capacitors in the signal path with higher-quality caps, sometimes tweaking the values, too.
- Replacing the stock IC chips with sockets so you can experiment with different flavours of HQ low-noise chips.
- Replacing the LED with another colour. (no impact on sound, but since you've got the hood up...)
- Increasing its power-handling capabilities to 18v
* GE-7B, Update the power jack of these older units​

RESULT: Less noise, better tone/clarity, greater headroom, better functionality.


I've got a mint Boss CE-2B Chorus, I'd kinda like to do the signal-chain caps in it, but ... it's NOS NIB never-gigged mint — and it's only stock once...


EQ, one of the greatest yet most underrated effects out there. Your GEB-7 looks mint!

I have one and currently it sits in the effects loop of my Ampeg SVP preamp. The output of my SVP is low and the GEB-7 gives the signal more than enough clean boost.
