Nusicman sings like a dolphin

any ideas on this one...

I have a musicman stingray, 3band eq, but everytime I plug it in, i get a noise like dolphin songs...lots of high pitch clicking and wining.

I've changed the battery and checked the electronics with no sign of loose wires/ damage etc...

It happens with different amps and cables. Sometimes if you take the battery out and put it in again when the cable is plugged in it dissappears for a while.

Anyone had similar experiences??

This is my totally unprofessional, non-qualified opinion:

I own a Stingray as well, and forgot to unplug the bass from my amp while it was on once when I was swapping the battery. I had my bass make this exact same type of sound (which also conjured forth images of dolphins). I'm guessing that this issue has something to do with a loose battery connection wire OR preamp wiring to the battery.

If you don't get any sound at all from plucking the strings, and just songs of the dolphin, then I'm almost certain this is the issue...take it to a good luthier/tech though, it shouldn't take more than 30 mins for an experienced tech to sort it out if that's the issue.
