New Wireless Headphone Amp Day
Needing a divice for headphone practice I was torn between these Spark Neos and the Boss Waza Air. I don't like to order multiple options with the intention to send back and add to the unnecessary cargo traffic. So I decided to give the Neos a try first.
They look nice. They are feeling solid and sit tight but comfortable. I am wearing glasses so this is a big plus. When setting up everything came together intuitively. I had to read up on changing the volume tho. This can only be done when the phones receive a signal. For safety reasons. Ok... The phones quite dampen the environement but don't isolate completely.
The transmitter doesn't stick out a lot. Its angle is adjustable and is held in place firmly.
At first use I've tried two amp models. One Sunn 300T and a GK 800rb. I do like both. Will have to compare the 800rb to my DiCosimo preamp some day but I don't expect equality and I've been positively surprised by the amp models' sound. I haven't yet played around with the Eden and the Tone Hammer. These amp models sit in the middle of a signal chain. Unfortunately you can't change the signal chain's order. You can swap between different pedals within the category/position. I've had a quick look at some distortions. Not the same as the pedals on my board but very useable sounds. Latency is not perceiveable to me.
I'm pleased with what the Neos provide for my practicing needs and I consider the provided amp and pedal emulations a big plus. The app also comes with a tuner and a metronome. Regarding battery life... I'm 2 hours in. We will see. Spark states 6 hours. Looking forward to travelling with my bass and the Neos in the gigbag.
